Today I spent the whole day at a Peoplesoft HRMS demo. Peoplesoft HR is always impressive and the product always looks better than its competitors. I am what they call a functional HR consultant who works with HR ERPs. I haven’t really worked on SAP HRMS or Peoplesoft but am currently evaluating both the products for a client’s HR needs.
What I liked the most in today’s demo was not as much the functionality or the look and feel, but the concept behind the product. As the Peoplesoft consultant explained it to me, Peoplesoft is built around Talent Management. Employee Talents form the core of the product which determine whom to recruit and how to train, what to train the employees in and what to evaluate the employees on. It is talent that seamlessly flows between the different modules. With all the current buzz on Talent management (vs Human Capital managment), I felt they had really hit it.
Peoplesoft has really improved its workflows and is much more user friendly now. It really looks like something that we can deploy and let the HR team configure and manage processes. Of course, it is just the demo stage and everything is bound to look green now. But I am happy that Oracle is keeping Peoplesoft well and alive.
